Meet Savitski Timofei: a second-semester student at ELTE, originally from Belarus.

When I told him about this project and that I might make it about him, his response was very on-brand: measured, mildly amused, and immediately curious about the implications. That reaction is, honestly, a perfect encapsulation of who he is.

Timofei is one of those people who always seems genuinely curious about things. He has a calm, measured energy that balances out the general chaos of our group. He thinks before he speaks, asks the right questions, and has an agreeably skeptical eye for anything that sounds too convenient to be true. Good company.

Notes

Trip to Esztergom

The photos above were taken during a day trip to Esztergom, a city in northern Hungary on the Danube bend, famous for the largest church in Hungary - the Esztergom Basilica.

It is a good city to visit from Budapest - about an hour by train, plenty to see, and a great vantage point over the Danube and into Slovakia. Timofei was a good travel companion: calm, interested in everything, did not complain.

That last point is rarer than you might think.

From Belarus to Budapest

Belarus is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, bordered by Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. Its capital is Minsk. Like Alyda’s journey from Laos, coming from Belarus to study Computer Science at ELTE in Budapest takes real initiative.

The measured, thoughtful personality that Timofei brings to our group seems well-suited to the kind of rigorous, abstract thinking that CS demands. He fits right in - or rather, he makes the rest of us fit around him, which might be the same thing.
